NDU-Shouf Campus students set, yet again, a fine example of democratic practice as they elected their Student Cabinet representatives on December 1, 2016. Holding a firm belief in the transparent, electoral and democratic system of their campus, the students actively took part in campaigning, rallying and debating for three days before the elections.
The votes were cast and counted – and over 60% of all students took part in the elections representing a fairly large turnout and a sign of trust in the integrity of the university’s elections. Ms. Joyce Menassa, Dean of Students and Mr. Melhem Rechdan, Assistant to the Dean, monitored the election process and the counting of the votes.
Voting stations around campus were closed at 2pm. The campus was filled with anticipation as candidates sat among supporters in anticipation. The wait was not too long and the results were out shortly after the closing of the ballots:
- Adma Fatayri, Faculty of Business Administration and Economics;
- Said Mahmoud, Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design;
- Alaa Wehbi, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences;
- Renee Mousallem, Faculty of Nutrition and Health Sciences;
- Kareem Yazbek, Facutly of Humanities;
- Nizar Daou, Faculty of Engineering.
Father Hanna Tayar, NDU-Shouf Campus Director, congratulated the winners and the entire NDU-Shouf Campus student body over their democratic spirit and their maturity. Fr. Tayar hoped the new Student Cabinet would live up to its campaign promises and deliver on-the-ground results that would benefit the student body and the university.
